100% Primitivo
Barrel Regimen
12 months - 70% French Oak, 30% New Oak
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet red in color, the 2017 Primitivo is alluring, with dense notes of balsamic, clove, blackberries, plums, and black licorice. A silky mouthfeel overlays a firm, ripe underlying tannic structure. With warming on the palate, there is a hint of Mediterranean herbs – rosemary and sage - that emerges, as the wine coalesces into a long, seamless, and elegant finish.
Vintage Notes
The 2017 Edizione Pennino Primitivo was sourced from deep within the highly acclaimed southern Puglia DOC of Primitivo de Manduria, the only Italian region specializing in the production of this grape variety. Warm, arid growing conditions favor the production of darkly colored, full-bodied, red wines. Traditionally, Primitivo is paired with roasted, braised, and stewed meats or aged cheeses.

18 Months - 15% New American Oak, 9% New French Oak, 76% Neutral American & French Oak
Tasting Notes
The 2019 Edizione Pennino Zinfandel is dark ruby red in color, with a purple edge. The nose is very focused, showing ample ripe fruit aromas of plum, clove, and ultra- ripe blueberry and blackberry. The wine is sweet, plush, and generous in the mouth, with very round, velvety tannins that create a sense of warmth and balance on the finish.
Vintage Notes
Plentiful winter rainfall heralded an early start to the 2019 growing season for our Zinfandel blocks. Budbreak arrived early, followed by well-timed bloom and veraison. Moderate weather in the summer and early fall led to excellent timing for our Zinfandel to fully ripen at the end of September. Both the newer trellised blocks and the older head-trained, dry farmed blocks on the back of the estate reached optimal ripeness on September 28th, which we now refer to as “Zinfandel Saturday.” The remaining few blocks close to the Chateau were harvested a few days later on October 1st. Very gradual final ripening during the extended period between veraison and harvest explains the superb condition and classic Zinfandel flavors of the harvested fruit.
